Miki's lectures: Thin accretion disk

Abstract: In this series of lectures, the basics of accretion processes will be reviewed, directed towards the thin accretion disk. We will derive the equations for hydrodynamic solutions, touching upon the magnetic solutions at the end. Parallel with the analytical solutions, we will develop Python modules for numerical computations and visualization of the results.

Program:
Duration of the course is 3 weeks, in 3x2 hrs blocks each week.

1st week: Introduction to accretion
-Spherical (Bondi) accretion
-Accretion disk; Viscosity
-Python code for Bondi accretion

2nd week: Height-averaged solutions
-Perturbative solutions
-Shakura-Sunyaev disk
-Python code for Shakura-Sunyaev disk

3rd week: General solutions
- z-averaged solutions: Urpin (1984) ; Regev (1983) solution
-Kluzniak-Kita solution for thin disk and its magnetic generalization
-Umurhan (2006) generalized gamma solutions
-Python code for thin disk; python tool DUSTER

PDF with the lectures: pdf file

Prerequisites:
Installed Python on laptop and minimal working knowledge of Python will be useful, as the last 2 hours block each week will be dedicated to creating a code for numerical solution of a topic from the lectures.
