Historical note about Mandre

Mandre is a new settlement, organized by the Kingdom of Yugoslavia decree in 1936/1937, because of malaria in the field of Kolan. The plan was to relocate Kolan to a seaside location. Housing and basic infrastructure were built, but actually only a few families moved. A harbour was built and this was the base for slow, but steady increase of population, with descendants of Kolan people building their summer residences there. With the start of tourism in the 1970-ies, Mandre started explosive expanding, with hundreds of apartment buildings for renting built by locals, and also by tourist enterprises. Currently it is expanding towards west and towards Kolan.
